Vehicle software update technology allows specific software updates for specific vehicle components to be downloaded and installed over the air. This technology provides a convenient way to update your vehicle with the latest software available. This feature is available on 2017 model year and newer vehicles.
Important: During the installation of the vehicle software update, the vehicle is turned off and cannot be driven during the installation. You cannot remove or cancel once the installation has started. Customers are therefore advised to use the “Download/Install” option or wait for a more convenient time using the “Notify me later” or “Schedule” options (if available); or they can exit the vehicle (the update is proposed up to 30 times in the next ignition cycle). If you select Download/Install, the customer will be asked for two confirmations: both an estimated installation time and a message on the vehicle’s touch screen advising that the vehicle will be stationary during the installation.
You will receive success and error messages from the system during and after the download and installation processes.
Summary Of Updates, Dates, And Descriptions
Download and installation times vary depending on the size of the update and wireless signal strength.
To verify that your vehicle supports car software updates, go to the Settings menu in your infotainment system and look for one of the following options:
If you see these options, your vehicle supports vehicle software updates. To be eligible for software updates for your vehicle, including automatic Super Cruise map updates (if equipped), you must agree to the Connected Car Services User Terms and Vehicle Privacy Statement.

The first step is to download the software. Download time varies depending on update size and wireless signal strength. While you download the software, you can continue to use your vehicle normally.
Once the software is downloaded, you can start the installation process. During this part of the process, your vehicle will be immobilized (i.e. unusable/drivable). This operation cannot be undone once the installation has started.
Vehicle software update installation times vary depending on the component being updated and the content of the update. A notification in the car will show the estimated time for installation to be completed. Typically, installing the software takes 20 minutes or less.
While you download the software, you can continue to use your vehicle normally. If you turn off your car or lose your network connection during a download (for example, when you enter a parking lot), the download will stop and restart automatically. Today I noticed that my OnStar mobile access stopped working away from my home Wi-Fi, which I can unblock. , unlock, turn on or call from home, but not out of range of home Wi-Fi.
Gm’s Electric Vehicle Ambitions Tied To Software, Digital Transformation
I called OnStar and they said the mobile app worked on my home Wi-Fi, but not far from home there was a problem with the car signal and I had to call my dealer.
I called my dealer and made an appointment and they said a software update was needed and that could fix the car cell phone problem as well.
Does anyone know why this is the most recent update (last update released in March 2022 when the battery was replaced), if anyone has had this problem?
The new update only serves to add diagnostic improvements and fix previous software issues that some have experienced after replacing the battery. I received my letter today and called the dealer to make an appointment.
Gm Pushed Substantial Onstar Over The Air Update In September
I love that they are so vague about the update. Has anyone heard about any features in more detail?
Interesting. Isn’t this an update to fix P0BBD a month ago for those who got a new battery last spring? But is this an update of an update?
The update itself, I believe, is listed as the only open source software for my Chevrolet
I’m still surprised they don’t support OTA updates for anything other than the infotainment system. The central display has access to the car’s main CAN bus, so if they really wanted it, they should be able to send an update to the central display and update other hardware via CAN/UDS. This is a well-known route (doing updates via UDS) that GM also has considerable experience with. Why they don’t support it in Bolt, I’m not sure. It appears to be completely doable without any hardware changes. Maybe they tried and got into trouble or didn’t understand the importance of bean counters. We are 99.9% sure that the engineers working on the Bolt want to send OTA updates. If I had worked on the car, I would have definitely contested it.

However, ACDelco TDS should have these updates and people should be able to use them without going to the dealer. But this requires a GDS2 adapter for your PC. Has anyone tried it?

Click to expand… They did it before, in 2018 or something, but people got mad for some reason (people can get mad like that), they blamed GM for something or other, and basically not it went well. The problem is that Bolt has to re-flash the SOM – it’s BEV2, their second architecture that supports OTA, but that’s a whole pig process. At the same time, Ultifi (BEV3) was released, which supports further upgrades, the most important of which is the separation of components between system and hardware. Well, with Ultifi they did it, Bolt is simply old technology and the retailer would be better off flashing.
In any case, another problem is that at low speeds, if you press the brake and accelerator at the same time, it can generate a traction fault code. The code was added recently in response to the battery issue. So I think this update has a fix for that false positive code (my wife ran it). There are probably other solutions too.
